(2012)Until next year....
My first year at this clothing drive initiative has come to a close, and what a year it has been!
As you can see from the picture, my little Aveo certainly was given a run for it's money. There were many, many days doing the pick-ups, all across S,D & G, that I had only my drivers side mirror to use as I made my way, chugging along, to the storage site. I've never been so happy to only have one mirror to use!
Many times during this journey, I became overwhelmed with emotion when I would show up at a site and see the mounds of bags waiting to go or the little notes tucked into bags thanking me for helping others or seeing hand knit blankets and sweaters made from the heart. There's nothing quite like shedding a few tears in front strangers :)
Without further adieu....[insert drum roll here].....I am pleased to announce that I have collected a total of 350 garbage bags of clothes! I am still collecting from one location and easily expect to reach 500 bags by the time I ship, which will be happening near the end of the year.
What's next? Well, now I start searching for a financier for next years initiative and, depending on what country that financier is from, it will determine the next destination. Also, I am currently trying to secure funds and legal assistance in order to procure, the official title, of an NPO.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all those who donated and to all of the local business who were generous enough to donate space for the bags. Listed below were all of the participating location that I encourage us all to support at any opportunity we can.
* Lancaster - Opportunity Knox*
* Alexandria - Alexandria Athletic Club
* Apple Hill - S & B Distributing
* Chesterville - Durant's Flowers
* Finch - Finch Pizzeria
* Ingleside - Home Hardware
* Martintown - Johnny Mac's Tavern
* Maxville - Home Hardware
* Moosecreek - Chez Theres (Moosecreek Mall)
* Lancaster - Gail & Jim's Sweet Tooth
* Winchester - Durant's Flowers
